Research for Fe deficiency response of Poplar tree

Poplar is a tree that is useful in biomass production because it is resistant to environmental stresses such as low temperature and dryness and grows in a short period of time. It is also used for greening the desert in Inner Mongolia. Desert soils are often alkaline, and we believe it would be more effective for desert greening if we could increase the ability of poplars to absorb iron. As a preliminary step, poplars were cultivated in calcareous soil and iron-deficient hydroponic solution, and the physiological response of poplar to iron deficiency was examined. We also investigated the genes related to iron that are induced during iron deficiency, and clarified the mechanism of poplar tolerance to iron deficiency.

We hope to improve the ability of poplars to absorb iron, create stronger poplars due to iron deficiency, and contribute to greening the desert.
