Plants and Iron: Contributing to Food Production 1
Research for Fe excess tolerance of Rice

In acidic soils, iron can be dissolved in large amounts in the soil, which can cause crop overload. Especially in China and Southeast Asia, iron overload has an adverse effect on rice cultivation. Various levels of iron overstress were given in rice hydroponics, and the relationship between iron overstress and growth effects was clarified. In addition, we analyzed changes in gene expression due to iron overtreatment by microarray, and discovered several candidate genes related to iron overresponse in rice.

We also hope to elucidate the mechanism of iron over-resistance in rice and produce rice with iron over tolerance, which will lead to improved rice production in areas where iron overload is a problem, such as in Southeast Asia.
